The underserved list, biggest city first

Top of the table: Seattle, Washington — 781k residents, a single park in city limits. The biggest true zero is Washington, DC at 702k. Many of these are dense urban cores where the parks landed in the suburbs instead — which is exactly the point: the downtown family with no car is the unserved customer.

Methodology

Cities are US Census incorporated places and consolidated city-governments with 2024 population estimates of 100,000 or more; township-style county subdivisions are excluded because their venues carry village addresses. A park counts toward a city when its street address sits inside that city (consolidated-government names are normalized, so Nashville-Davidson matches parks addressed "Nashville"). "None or one" is measured against our directory of 1,762 parks compiled from public business listings — a brand-new park that hasn't hit public listings yet won't be counted, so treat zeros as "none we can find," not a legal certification.
